Different setups need different coverage

Owner-operators with their own authority

You carry the primary liability and the filings. We put the whole policy together: liability, cargo, and cover for your rig.

Usual lines: Primary liability · Cargo · Physical damage

Owner-operators leased to a carrier

Your carrier covers you under dispatch. You still need cover for the miles home, your own truck, and yourself.

Usual lines: Bobtail / NTL · Physical damage · Occupational accident

New authorities

No history on the MC number yet means carriers ask more questions. We tell you what to have ready before you apply.

Usual lines: Primary liability · Cargo · General liability

Fleets

More trucks, more drivers, more paperwork. Send the unit and driver list in one go and we quote the fleet together.

From quote to certificate

  1. 1

    You send your details

On WhatsApp, by the quote form, or over the phone. Rig, haul, authority, and the coverage you want.

  2. 2

    We ask for what's missing

Usually driver details, VINs, and loss runs. Send photos in the same chat; no fax machine needed.

  3. 3

    You get your quote

We go through it line by line. When you're ready, we bind the policy and send your certificate of insurance.

Have these ready

  • USDOT and MC number, or the date you applied
  • Each driver's name, date of birth, CDL number, and years driving
  • Year, make, VIN, and value for each truck and trailer
  • Loss runs from your last insurer, if you had one
  • What you haul and how far you usually run

Missing something? Send what you have. We’ll quote from there.

Questions drivers ask

Can I get a quote on WhatsApp?

Yes. Tap Chat on WhatsApp anywhere on the site, or fill in the quote form on the contact page. WhatsApp opens a chat with us straight away. Add photos of your documents in the same chat if you have them handy.

Which states do you write in?

Akaal Insurance Agency is licensed in Indiana for property and casualty insurance. If you run out of another state, say so when you message us and we will tell you straight away whether we can help.

How much liability insurance does a trucking company need?

The federal minimum for for-hire carriers of general freight is $750,000. In practice most brokers will not give you a load under $1,000,000. Hazmat carriers need $1,000,000 to $5,000,000 depending on what they haul.

What's the difference between bobtail and non-trucking liability?

Both are for owner-operators leased to a motor carrier. Non-trucking liability covers you whenever you are off dispatch. Bobtail covers you when you drive without a trailer. Your lease agreement usually says which one you need.

Can a new authority get insured?

Yes, though the first years usually cost more because the authority has no history yet. Send us your DOT number and driving experience, and we will tell you what the carriers will ask for.

How does my insurance get filed with the FMCSA?

Once your policy is bound, the insurance company files your proof of liability (BMC-91 or BMC-91X) with the FMCSA electronically. Your authority cannot go active until that filing posts.
